Meeting Minutes

APRIL 8, 2018

The meeting was called to order by the President at 7:03. Dawn Morton led us in prayer and the pledge.

The minutes for February and March were reviewed and approved.
There was no treasurer’s report.

Officer Johnson reviewed the crime report. Still giving out tickets on Virginia Ave.

The Community Clean-up day on April 6th was a great community come together.. There were 94 individuals who helped. Big thanks were given to everyone (Southgate Martial Arts, the Girl Scouts, South Norfolk Ruritans, The Neighborhood, members of the civic league, The Gateway Church and many others) 217 bags of trash were picked up. We hope do this once a quarter. Maybe need to change the start time to 9:00.

The Food Trucks return Thursday, April 11th. Vicki Josue is taking over the scheduling, due to unforeseen circumstances. There will be 4 trucks and a DJ. If anyone knows of other food trucks that would be interested in coming, please contact Vicki Josue or Beth Rowland. They must have a city permit.

The Fourth of July Parade planning is going well. Should be a spectacular event. Applications are on the website. There will be advertising on hand fans again this year.

Rena B. Wright requested a donation from the civic league to go towards graphics on the stairs like Oscar Smith Middle. The Board was in favor. A motion was made by Jean Dixon to donate $150.00 towards the graphics and seconded by Jeff Rowland. The check will be made out to the school.
A motion was made by Vicki Josue to put a $25.00 ad in the Oscar Smith Middle School yearbook. It was seconded by Mike Dixon.

Public Works/Utilities – They are making progress in South Norfolk. Rosemont Rd. Is now complete. (Buchanan Street to start April 2020, Edgewood Ave. within 9 months, Liberty St. July 2019 and more). Overpass at Southgate Plaza to be replaced in the next 5-10 years. It scores very poorly.

The new South Norfolk Librarian spoke at the meeting. He talked about several of the programs the library has. Example: Healthy Grandparents, AARP Tax Help, Chesapeake Genealogy Enthusiasts, just to name a few. There is an app called the Libby app you can download to get ebooks and audiobooks from the library.
