The South Norfolk Civic League is pleased to announce we are now accepting Unit Applications for the 2023 4th of July Parade! The Application can be completed online here: (link). This year’s line up location is at South Norfolk Baptist Church, 1101 Chesapeake Ave, Chesapeake, VA 23324, and below is a list of some of our participant guidelines.

2023 PARADE UNIT GUIDELINES

Please follow these instructions to ensure a timely and safe parade experience for all.

Line up at your assigned sections at South Norfolk Baptist Church no later than 9:00 am the day of the
parade. Late entries will not be allowed.

If you are unable to participate, please let the parade coordinator know ASAP.

No vehicles will be permitted at the staging locations unless they are part of the parade. There is no
dedicated parking for participants. We recommend parking either at the very end of the parade route
on Holly Avenue, or on the side streets around the church.

The parade steps off promptly at 10 a.m.

You are required to immediately follow the group in front of you, so the parade moves smoothly and
continuously. Groups that create gaps in the parade will not be allowed to return next year.

Stopping along the parade route is NOT permitted, including for performances. Participants are
expected to immediately follow the group in front of them.

No throwing of objects of any kind (including candy) that would cause people to enter the parade route.
You may have walkers hand out candy along the route.

No Equipment and/or decorations may not obstruct the driver’s view.

All units must be decorated in accordance with the patriotic theme, including vehicles.

The volume of music being played cannot be excessive. If your group is asked by event staff to lower
the volume, you must comply.

At the end of the parade, please continue to go straight down Bainbridge Avenue if you have vehicles
to disperse. All other walking units are to turn right onto Holly Avenue.

There are low tree limbs and power lines as this is a residential route so plan your entry accordingly.

Please make sure your group has adequate water prior to and throughout the parade route.

The parade – and the rest of the festival – is rain or shine.

Appropriate behavior is always required.

Please email the Civic League’s Parade Coordinator at snjuly4thparade@gmail.com if you have any questions, concerns, or difficulty in accessing the Google Form.
