The new Poindexter Street Bridge, which replaces the old 22nd Street Bridge, will open tomorrow at about 10 a.m., said Jason J. Brown, public information coordinator for the City of Chesapeake in a surprise email received about 3 p.m. today.
The old bridge was closed in 2018 for safety. Since then, South Norfolk residents have endured life without an overpass, meaning longer waits for train crossings and backed up traffic at impacted intersections in the area.
Joe Lee spoke for everyone when he commented, “Yay, Yay, Yay” on the announcement, which first appeared on Facebook.
