SOUTH NORFOLK CIVIC LEAGUE
NOVEMBER 18, 2019
Tim Buma called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.
The invocation was given by Pastor Peay and Vicki Josue led in The Pledge of Allegiance.
A motion was made to approve the minutes from the previous meeting and seconded. All in favor, motion passed.
The treasurer’s report was given. Details are not published here.

Tim Buma shared information he received about the results of the lake survey. It showed no major change in the depth of the lake since it was last dredged. So for now, dredging the lake is not necessary. There will be point-source testing to see if the runoff is affecting the quality of the lake water and causing the algae at Lakeside Park during the summer.
The South Norfolk Library will be having several events in the coming weeks. December 14th they will have the Holiday Tree Gala. Santa will be present, the Young Musicians of Virginia will be performing, crafts, free carriage rides etc.
Officer Mathews reported that larcenies are slightly up. Please remember to remove valuables and lock your doors. Signs are being posted around Chesapeake that say “Remove it, Lock it or Lose it! Officer Robert Falls was introduced and he is temporarily working the South Norfolk beat.
Officer Mathews will be introducing all the officers that work in South Norfolk to promote good relationships.
On November 29th, there will be a Black Friday Community Bike Ride starting at Creekmore Hardware at 4:00. We will have 4 Chesapeake Police Officers riding along.
The city is looking into more city parking at Phillips Street and Seaboard Avenue. They may be making repairs to the lot and “no trespassing” signs will still be there.
CAST has moved their pick up and drop off location to the new “We Care” Resource Center on South Military Hwy. Now the restrooms at the library can be unlocked.
Portable data-collecting digital speed signs will be going up around South Norfolk. These signs will capture date needed to plan for better enforcement of speeding. If you need one in your area, contact Officer Mathews.
Volunteers will be needed to help make wreaths for Poindexter Street. Garlands will be turned into wreaths with lights and bows. The garlands had been damaged in the past. You can attend December 2nd, 6:30 at the South Norfolk Community Center in Portlock. The wreaths for the bridge at Lakeside Park will be handled by the Neighborhood Watch.
Officers were elected. Motions were made and seconded for the following positions, Dawn Morton was reelected as chaplain, Reginald Moore was elected parliamentarian and Vicki Josue was elected treasurer. All were in favor and the motion was passed. They will take office in December.
The civic league will have their Annual Holiday Potluck December 9th at 6:30. All are welcome.
