SNCL MINUTES
9/9/19
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 by Tim Buma, President.
Invocation and pledge led by Dawn Morton.
Minutes from previous meeting were reviewed. A motion was made to approve the minutes and seconded. All in favor, motion passed.
Items discussed:
● Lakeside Park algae problem – Suzy Loonam has written an article about the problem, which you can read on the historicsouthnorfolk.com website. Also, Councilman Matt Hamel is working on getting us some answers on how to go about getting the problem resolved. Should be hearing from them in the near future.
● Overton Property – The owners got a continuance. The executive board worked with them and now it goes back Dollar Tree for their approval and Planning recommends approval.
● Food Trucks – They will be here this Thursday.
● ForKids – Groundbreaking will be September 8, 2019. There is a minor issue with the permits. The building will be three stories high. Cost is about $20,000,000.00. Will have approximately 150 people working there.
● Motion was made to donate $250.00 to ForKids and seconded. All in favor. Motion passed.
● 22nd Street Bridge coming along, approximate completion date May 2020.
● Pharmacy is under construction.
● Arby’s being built near Popeyes.
Today we presented Captain Jim Dunlap with a print of the Second Precinct for his nine years of service to the community.
Captain Dunlap retired September 1st. He was also presented gifts from the South Side, West Munden and Sunrise Hills Civic Leagues. He turned the community around and brought down crime about 30%.
Carolenn Latham, President of the South Norfolk Neighborhood Watch, also thanked the captain for his service and friendship.
Captain John Landfair will be our next Second Precinct Captain.
South Norfolk Neighborhood Watch will have their annual First Responders Appreciation Day October 5th, across from the Second Precinct.
Meeting adjourned at 7:19. Followed by ice cream, cake and drinks to celebrate the Captain’s retirement.
