Meeting Minutes

SOUTH NORFOLK CIVIC LEAGUE MINUTES

JUNE 10, 2019

The meeting was called to order by the President at 7:05.

Dawn Morton led us in prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Minutes from previous meeting were approved.

Officer Johnson gave us an update for our area:

  1. Vehicle larcenies were down
  2. Once school is out, be vigilant
  3. 17 summons have been given to work trucks

The July Fourth Parade preparations are going well.  Suzy Loonam is handling the hand fans. Deadline for the parade has been extended to June 23rd. It is $25 for a spot on the back of the fan.

The Community Cleanup has been scheduled for June 22nd, with the focus on Lakeside Park .  We will start at 8:00 and end at 11:00. Hot dogs, chips and drinks will be served at 11:00 in the park.

The potential groundbreaking for ForKids will be in the fall.

Food Trucks are doing well.  To date, we have made a profit.  We still have 8 more Food Truck dates.

The Neighborhood Watch along with Buffalow Family/Friends will be cooking July4th at the park.  National Night Out will be August 6th. Most of the garden boxes are signed for. Girl Scout Troop 51 have been a big help in keeping up the garden.  Elections for officers will be in October.

Wendy Schofer, MD spoke about Healthy Chesapeake and the Food Farmacy and what it means for our community.

The South Norfolk Library will be a lunch serving spot for children 18 and under for the summer months.

Miscellaneous items discussed:

  • Alleys are to be maintained by the city
  • Working on the algae in the lake at the park
  • Graffiti was taken care of on the bridge at park
