MAY 1, 2020 – Today, South Norfolk Civic League officials announced that the annual Independence Day parade and party at Lakeside Park planned for July 4 has been canceled.

“To adhere to state guidelines for opening in phases based on uncertain data, we had to make changes for the safety and welfare of everyone,” said Tim Buma, South Norfolk Civic League president.
All is not lost, however.
“There will be a home-decorating contest and we will award two scholarships to graduating high school seniors in the 23324 area code,” he said.
To enter the home-decorating contest, complete your decorations by 3 p.m. on July 3. A panel of anonymous judges will tour areas of South Norfolk and Portlock. Prizes include a garden flag commemorating your award and a gift basket.
