South Norfolk’s 2017 Fourth of July Parade and Picnic in the Park was one of the best yet, according to many of this year’s attendees, who cited clear skies, varying activities, vendors, dignitaries and the appearance of the Oscar Smith High School Marching Band as the big stars in the annual Independence Day event.

Jointly presented by the City of Chesapeake Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism and the South Norfolk Civic League, event organizers thank all the 2017 sponsors for their support:

There was some sadness at the missing paddleboats this year, however, the boats were pulled due to algae on the surface of the lake which may have caused permanent damage, had they been used on July 4.
